Pre-waste project
Pre-waste is a three-year European project (2010-2012) with an aim to help local and regional authorities improve their waste prevention policies, in order to significantly reduce the production of waste, and its hazards.
In particular, the project will deliver:
- guidelines for planning, implementing and monitoring regional waste prevention policies,
- 20 best examples of actions for waste prevention implemented in the European Union by local or regional authorities,
- a web tool that enables assessment and monitoring of how efficient each waste prevention actions is.
The project involves 10 partners in Europe who are committed to sharing their expertise in waste prevention and waste management, those being: Marche Region – Project Leader (Italy) with the support of SVIM – Sviluppo Marche SpA the regional development agency as Technical Secretariat, ACR+ – Association of Cities and Regions for Recycling and for sustainable Resource management (European network), ORDIF – Ile-de-France Region Waste, Management Observatory (France), IBGE – Brussels Environment (Belgium), Municipality of Roquetas de Mar (Spain), Municipality of Sofia (Bulgaria), Public Cooperation Department of Ilfov Couty (Romania), Municipality of Karlskrona (Sweden), Tampere Regional Solid Waste Management Ltd (Finland) and WasteServ Malta Ltd (Malta).

Is happiness without material just an utopia?
Tampere Regional Solid Waste Management organized the national Pre-waste event on 11th March 2011 in Tampere. "Reel Time films" were shown before the seminar. Reel Time is an environmental education project in which movies are used as a medium for young people to express their opinions about consumerism. The target group is junior high school students. Originally, Reel Time Film Festival was founded by Tampere Solid Waste Management in 2005. Nowadays Reel Time is a part of EcoFellows activities. This year 13 films were produced. Formerly the best films were awarded but on this year Pikkola´s School from Kangasala was awarded as a school that has been really active and productive with Reel Time project during the years.
The Chairman of Board of TRSWM Oras Tynkkynen (picture above) opened the event and the Managing Director Pentti Rantala was hosting. Presentations were given on topic "Is happiness without material just an utopia?". The speakers were "Happiness Professor" Markku Ojanen (University of Tampere), Architect and Environmental Journalist Pasi Toiviainen and Europarlamentarian Sirpa Pietikäinen. After the presentations the Chairman of CarrotMob Tampere Toni Paju joined in and speakers were discussing on the topic. The audience was involved too. Event was open to everyone and all together about 100 people were enjoying films and conversations.
